22nd Annual TG For Life Basketball Tournament
In memory of
Justin Sheppard and Shawn Green

TG4Life is a community-based organization that is committed to providing young people living in high-risk communities to foster positive relationships and development through regulated sporting activities. We utilize the power of basketball as a means of reaching our targeted youths.

We are undertaking our 21st Annual Tournament on June 21st to 23rd of 2019 in 8 different facilities all over the city of Toronto (RYU, George Brown, Pan Am and various other locations). We are anticipating 1500 participants and over 4000 spectators.

The TG4Life tournament was inspired to stop this violence. It was created in Justin Sheppard’s memory, a young promising basketball player, who was brutally murdered almost 16 years ago because of youth violence in Toronto, and Shawn Green who passed away last year while playing on the court due to a heart attack, the game he loved – basketball. The goal is to highlight the issues of youth violence and promote more positive, healthy interactions and relationships among Toronto’s youth.

Our Need

Youth violence has plagued Toronto for far too long. Serious forms of violence such as homicide and aggravated assault are now increasingly concentrated among youth. In 2012, forty-eight people – mostly young men – were victims of homicide in Toronto. Most of these victims were under the age of thirty and disproportionately large numbers were young Black men as well as members of other racially marginalized communities (Toronto Police Service Crime Statistics, Year-to-date, 2013; CBC Toronto Homicide Map).

In our 19h year of hosting this tournament and influencing over 15,000 youth, we are happy to collaborate with Jr. NBA for 2019. We are very pleased and overwhelmed by the support we have received from the community and youths that benefit from the positive outcomes of the tournament each year. This year, we have planned an exciting schedule of sporting events, award ceremonies, autograph sessions, food and refreshments, and other youth related special events. Along with many of our National team members and Pro players, we will have special celebrity appearances by Jamaal Magloire and Simeon Mars from the Toronto Raptors

Your Investment

We are seeking support to continue providing a quality tournament to teach life skills including, leadership, respect and building mutually beneficial relationships. We hope you would consider a sponsorship of XXX. Your sponsorship will ensure that Toronto’s youth have the opportunity to be engaged in basketball and encourage positive youth development by using sport as way to provide constructive opportunities. We would be able to work with you to determine any recognition opportunities of your sponsorship investment.

We sincerely thank you for your time and consideration. Our success has relied on community partners like yourself. We hope you will join us in this motivation, positive and life-altering initiative for our youth. “Thanks to the TG4Life basketball tournament I was able to earn a scholarship at North East College in Nebraska. Without the tournament I would not have been able to afford Post Secondary Education, coming from an impoverished neighborhood.”
